The Yellow River beach area of Xinxiang City is located in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. At the same time, the beach area is a special space zone, which undertakes many functions such as flood detention of the Yellow River and production and life of local residents.Unlike general floodplains, the beach area of Xinxiang has always been densely populated with residential areas.Since the operation of Xiaolangdi Reservoir, the flooding probability of the Yellow River beach area has decreased. At this moment,in order to approach the balance between rural development and flood protection, the concept of the resilient city should be introduced into the analysis process of the Yellow River beach in Xinxiang,Henan Province.Firstly, based on the review of relevant research on resilient city, the applicability of the theory of resilient city to the spatial development of the Yellow River beach area is established. On the basis of disturbance classification and spatial function classification, and under the guidance of resilient city representation, the concept of spatial development of Yellow River beach area is put forward, which is solid and efficient, redundant, flexible, diverse and connectionistSecondly, focusing on the Yellow River beach area of Xinxiang City, from the perspective of functional space of four types of beach areas, applying ArcGIS to assist analysis and prediction, the utilization of beach resources and the ability to cope with external disturbances are evaluated. The conclusion shows that the flood is gradually controllable, but the risk still exists, which reflects the insufficiency of robustness and efficiency in the engineering protection space;the ecological environment is superior but the system is fragile, which reflects the insufficient redundancy of ecological space;the communities' cultural cohesion and ability to cope with floods is weak, which reflects the lack of robustness, diversity and flexibility in living space;the current industrial base is weak and homogeneous competition is serious, which reflects the lack of diversity, connectivity and adaptability in production space. Finally, based on the analysis of the aspects and specific manifestations of the lack of resilience, this study proposes four first-level space optimization strategies and eleven second-level space optimization strategies to enhance the resilience of the research area. The first-level strategy includes taking the consolidation of engineering safety as the premise, rebuilding the redundant structure of the ecological space, creating a rich and flexible living space, and constructing a diversified production space. The resilience city concept sees the adaptability as for direction during the process of implementing long-term goals, which could be considered as complementary to traditional planning.Usually, flexible short-term response goals and planning strategies would be formulated to promote the dynamic balance of spatial systems. Therefore, the spatial planning strategy system of the Yellow River Beach Area proposed by this study is not static. It should be revised and improved in further practice.
