Nowadays,with the influence of science and poststructuralism,the landscape design and aesthetic requirement is gradually changing.Designers are pursuing to make use of complex curved surfaces and space system.Meanwhile,the rapid development of digital technology provides powerful tools and platforms for the realization of such complex curved surfaces and space systems.By these developments,designers are not only being satisfied with establishing complex curves and surfaces by computer,but also making efforts to get those complex curved surfaces designs realized in real world.The process of the realization of complex curved surfaces has become one of the hottest topics in the landscape design area.In recent years,designers have been conducting kinds of trials around this project,For the development of digital design and digital fabrication is not well balanced,the complete system between landscape design and fabrication has not been developed completely yet.which also limits how complex curved surfaces being applied.According to the situation nowadays,the paper focus on the process of realizing the complex curved surfaces by combing theory and practice,including solving the problems encountered from design to Optimization and fabrication.In this paper,first of all,the design trend and the potential problems existing in the application and realization of complex curved surfaces are introduced.Secondly,the theoretical and technical background and basic steps involved in the complex curved surface fabrication are demonstrated.Thirdly,based on the theory of geometry and bionics,the methodology of realizing the complex curved surfaces and strategy for optimizing the complex curved surface is proposed.Then exploring the materials and construction approaches that are potentially applicable in realizing the complex landscape surface.Finally,demonstrating the application of complex curved surface generated from digital technology,through two practical projects which are the landscape design for the Chinese Sinology Park and Beijing South Olympic Park.Hoping this research can provide reference for the design and fabrication of complex landscape surface in the future.
