Over the past 30 years of reform and opening up,China's road traffic infrastructure has ushered in a period of rapid development.By the end of 2015,the mileage of expressway and normal highway in our country has reached 123,500 kilometers and 4,453,800 kilometers respectively, which means the future road maintenance work in future will face a severe test from now on.It has become a new topic that how to effectively keep the value of road assets.Changes in pavement performance are a function of many factors, which including pavement structure, subgrade strength, pavement strength and thickness, loading capacity, environmental factors, type and level of maintenance, construction level, pavement materials, service time and combined effects of above factors, etc. As china has a vast territory, the pavement performance in different climates and geographical locations presents different characteristics. To timely and comprehensively grasp the pavement condition and performance of highway network in high altitude areas and improve the scientific level of maintenance activities and management decision-making,it is necessary to study the characteristics of road surface by using performance degradation in high-altitude highways to study the performance of highway pavement in high altitude areas. Therefore, the evaluation and research of highway pavement maintenance in high altitude areas has become an essential work in maintenance management. It has guiding significance for improving the quality of construction projects. This dissertation studies the type and characteristics of typical pavement distress of high-altitude highways in China by analyzing and evaluating the relationship between road performance and traffic volume, road structure and regional factors.A maintenance decision analysis model which suitable for high-altitude regional highways is formulated based on the evaluation results. The efficiency of the maintenance funding could be improved through post-evaluation after the implementation of the different maintenance activities, providing a basis for future maintenance management.
