With the rapid growth of the economy,China's construction industry is constantly developing and innovating. With the continuous deepening of the reform and opening up process,multi-storey residential buildings have sprung up all over the country. With the passage of time, these multi-storey residential buildings have gradually produced various problems, and the absence of elevators is one of the problems.Due to the limitations of the times, the design concepts and architectural functions at that time could not meet the current needs of people.People's standards for housing are increasing. Therefore, housing should be constantly innovated following social development, but there are many countless counts in the country. The layered residential buildings are not completely useless, and many still retain their main functions of use. However, the lack of elevators and other problems has reduced the livability of the houses to a certain extent.Under the premise that the model of complete demolition and reconstruction is no longer achievable,it is a good idea to carry out scientific and rational transformation of existing multi-storey residential buildings that do not meet the needs of the people today. In recent years, the severe aging population problem has further illustrated the urgency and severity of the renovation of existing multi-storey residential buildings. In view of this,in the context of the development process of elevators at home and abroad, this paper starts from the status quo of multi-storey residential buildings in China, and compares the different types of residential planes to make a concrete discussion on the transformation of elevators. The advantages and disadvantages of different transformation methods adopted for different types of residential planes are described and explained in combination with elevator selection, elevator shaft and foundation pit.
