The diversification of the economic mode has stimulated people's pursuit of various consumption contents, also changed consumer understanding of shopping: it is not limited to the satisfaction of results, but the process of spiritual enjoyment. In addition to functionally satisfying a variety of activities such as consumer shopping, entertainment, dining, and rest, but also stresses the spatial quality and user experience feeling, which causes designers to think about shoppers' psychological and behavioral performance. This paper defines the research scope of commercial complex with representative commercial complexes in Xi'an,focuses on the spatially-utilized population. It intends to understand the realities of public spaces, consumer behavior and mental activities within commercial complexes through observations and questionnaires, such as cognitive maps and statistics of pedestrian parking statistics.Using the theory of information stimulation, behavioral habits of environmental psychology and the privacy and domain theory of personal space to explain the contradictions or interactions between consumer behavioral psychologies and environmental factors.Summarizes the requirements for space of diversity activities, clarity of orientation, territoriality and privacy of personal space, and landscape ecology. Then starting from the spatial form and internal constituent elements, propose design strategies and methods for meeting these needs. On the one hand,it can be used as a complement to China's theoretical research system for commercial complexes;on the other hand,it provides a reference for the design of public spaces within commercial complexes in the future. Finally, based on the current situation and looking forward to the future,we will discuss the prospects for the development of public spaces within commercial complexes.
