Study On Yushan Cottage And The Garden Life Of Jiangnan Scholars In The Yuan Dynasty

Gu Ying's "Yushan Cottage",a paradise in the end of the Yuan Dynasty,is the most livable place for the literati.Affected by traditional thoughts,literati living in troubled times eager to find somewhere can comfort their souls.Since the appearance of the "city forest",gardens are the best carrier to relieve their depression.With his family property,Gu Ying had been able to build an exquisite garden,and also his generous character,enables him to gather the literati,therefore Yushan Cottage becomes their common ideal home.Also,you can never forget Gu Ying's “Yushan Yaji”.As the largest number of participants and most influential literati works in the history of China,there has always been scholars who have studied it in the literary field and explored its influence on the literary world of the end of the Yuan dynasty,but they have also overlooked the most important carrier of “Yushan Yaji”——the research of the “Yushan Cottage”.In fact,“Yushan Yaji” is not only a gathering for literati to sing and communicate,but also a garden activity that represents the ideal and interest of life of the literati in the end of the Yuan Dynasty.Because so many literati participant in it,“Yushan Yaji” can even represent the lifestyle of the entire Jiangnan literati group during this period.Due to the relationship between “Yushan Cottage” and “Yushan Yaji”,this article discusses living and garden as a whole,because when lacking the Cottage,“Yaji” can never exist alone.Hence on the basis of the understanding of the people's mentality and their pursuit,we can better understand features and of the lost “Yushan Cottage” before its destruction,and make a deeper understanding of the lifestyles between garden owners and his friends.The article is divided into six chapters.The first chapter proposes a dilemma of the research due to the disappearance of the ancient garden,and proposes to return the classical garden to a specific historical background,explore the owner's mentality,and combine with its original lifestyle to research the pattern of the garden and the significance to the research.The second chapter introduces the background of the Yuan Dynasty,discusses the literati's living conditions and mentality characteristics in the end of the Yuan Dynasty,as well as the construction activities.The third chapter explores the cultural taste and value pursuit of the garden owner Gu Ying,discusses the mentality of the friends who entered “Yushan Cottage” and the influence on“Yushan Cottage”,thereby to explore the landscape features and style of “YushanCottage”.The fourth chapter uses “Yushan Yaji”,the most representative garden activities of Jiangnan literati in the end of the Yuan Dynasty as the carrier,explores the conditions and patterns “Yushan Cottage” should have in order to satisfy the literati.The fifth chapter is based on the fragmentary information mentioned by literati,the mentality,the taste and the pursuit,comprehensively research the “Yushan Cottage”.The sixth chapter puts forward the conclusions,innovations,insufficiency and prospects of the thesis.The in-depth research of “Yushan Cottage” and “Yushan Yaji”,the understanding of the landscape of the Jiangnan Garden in the end of the Yuan Dynasty,is a valuable academic project for the relatively weak garden study of this period.The literati's pursuit of living space and the idea of life reflected by the Jiangnan literati's garden life,understanding and feeling it also has time significance for exploring the relationship between human and landscape.
