The Application Of Fan Culture On Jiangnan Literati Garden Window

Sectors are the part of significance elements in Jiangnan literati landscape gardens and the using frequency in designing for windows of garden is highest.It is significant to know the cultural connotation of sectors for unsrambling the theory of designing for windows in literati landscape gardens.The essay set the cultural symbol of sectors as the starting point and extract two elements from the culture of sectors influencing windows in garden,they are sectorial painting and sectors elements.It retrospects the experiencing history of the culture of sectors and knows the reason of combining between culture of sectors and windows in garden.Based on the historical origin of fan culture and landscape window.It made a contrast between sectorial painting and windows in literati landscape garden and analyzed the influences that sectorial paintings have made in plant collocation,space layout,creating artistic conception.Then I have collected the windows in gardens that have experienced in Jiangnan literati landscape garden and made classification basing the specification of windows in gardens.I have known the methods of combining sectorial elements with other pattern elements.It developed deeply means of patterns of windows in garden and concluded the communications between the cultural of sector and the windows of sectorial elements.Finally,according to the above research put forward own views.The shape evolution of fans have experienced from circular fans to folding fans and shaped the kind of unique sectorial paintings under the guidance of traditional art views.In the mature stage of landscape art,Li Yu pioneered the fan screen because of the inspiration from the fan painting,and designed four kind of window types: Fang lake,Push window,Side window flower,Bird's nest.It created a unique aesthetic view of the window fan by introducing the fan painting creation technique to the creation of a French window fan.The space layout,factor collocation,artistic conception of views from sectorial framing are influenced deeply by the designing sectorial paintings.Selecting five typical sectorial windows from Jiangnan literati landscape gardens to contrast with the sectorial paintings,I have made the conclusion that angle,central,panoramic,around four types of sectorial paintings could correspond with sectorial framing in Jiangnan literati landscape gardens,at the same time,the landscaping elements in sectorial framing conformed to sectorial paintings.We would create more fantastic sectorial framing scenery if we can combine with the theory of sectorial paintings.There are totally 14 places that have used the sector's elements in Suzhou ancient districts that is the most concentration places in Jiangnan literati landscape gardens,of which 4 places used sectors as the window's frames,10 places patterns of landscape windows used sector's elements.The patterns that combined with the fan element can be divided into three categories: natural symbols,animal symbols,artifacts symbols.The combination of these patterns used a variety of forms which contain the spirit ofConfucianism and auspicious and associated closely with national culture.Using the culture of sectors in the window have reflected the literati designs philosophy for ideal harmonious and elegant.It would be more national features,if it bases on national culture.Starting from the traditional culture and extracting traditional elements applying to the modern garden,it can provide some references for the inheritance and development of classical gardens.
