At the turning point of the regeneration of city space,urban humanism was accepted by all of the world.Non-motorized transportation space is getting the focus from people.However,the western studies shows the inapplicability on the regeneration of Chinese cities with high density.At the same time,Yilan has became the walking-friedly city which is seated in Taiwan province,southeast of China.Yilan has the following features that promote it became non-motorized: the vague of public space,the spirit of inclusiveness and site belonginess.The reasons that Yilan getting its fame in non-mororized space are the nature environment and history,the policy of the development of Yilan and Huang Shengyuan's practice in the town.Huang Shengyuan and Field Office Architects have been living in Yilan and working on the urban design for more than twenty years.Their practices include architectures,roads,pedestrians,bridges,squares,stations and parks which shape the texture of the city.They reformed the old town and activated the urban vitality by responding the field.Huang and his team gradually constructed the non-motorized transportation space in the city.This article analyses the homeopathic strategies of urban design and demonstrates the approaches of realization of non-motorized transportation space.There are three phases including: openess of space,connection of public space and the regeneration of space.In the first phase,Huang opens the public architecture or site and removes the barrier between the adjacent sites.In the second phase,Huang extends the boundry of site and links the space by using roads or pedestrains.In the third phase,Huang makes the proper scale design for walking or biking people.He also considers the future development of the city to conserve vacant space in Yilan.At last but not least,this article states the practice background of Huang by analyzing the features of Yilan.It will provide the methods and enlightenments on the design of humanized city.
