Study On The Costumes Of The Stone Carved Characters Of The "Heretics Slandering About The Impiety Of Buddhism"

The sculpture of " Heretics slandering about the impiety of Buddhism" is located in No.17 "The Gratitude Sutra" in Dafowan stone craving,Baoding Mountain,DaZu.This group is a stone inscription about Buddhism that emphasizes filial piety.The theme is the beginning.Located on the lower left side of stone carvings,there are 10 characters in the story.They cover the costumes of monk,tirthikas and civilians.At present,in the absence of the actual costumes of the middle and low-level characters of the Southern Song Dynasty,these stone carvings provide useful information for study of the clothes and clothing style of these characters at that time,they are important basise for studying the costumes of the characters in the Southern Song Dynasty.Firstly,this paper introduces the objective content of the stone craving's history,area,location,period of carving and the message to be conveyed in the story.Then costumes of five male tirthika,two male beggars,a monk,a female tirthika and a female beggar will be structured and introduced,Focus on the sources of hat worn by two tirthikas and the clothes that female tirthika wear which only exposed apart,this paper will be makes reasonable speculations.It can be seen that costumes not only reflects the shape characteristics of the middle and lower groups of the Southern Song Dynasty,but also incorporates the elements of Liao Dynasty/ Jin Dynasty 's costumes and the performance of the Song Dynasty's drama,and reflects the exchange and blending of the Central Plains and exotic 's culture and art.This paper is based on the actual observation of the stone craving,combined with a large amount of literatures and unearthed cultural relics.This paper starts from the actual situation of the costumes of the characters,then reasonably speculates on the clothing colors,clothing materials and the patterns on the costumes of the characters.According to the identity of the engraved characters and the actual situation at that time,the materials used in the costumes of this group of people are mostly kudzu and linen fabrics;the colors of the costumes are mostly black and white,and brown may appear under the influence of northern nomads.In the engraving process,the composition of the Song Dynasty's drama is used for reference,and red,brown,blue,etc.,which are more commonly used in the Song Dynasty's,may appear in the color;on the clothing pattern,the clothing pattern should be made by printing or anti-dyeing process.Comparing the Dazu Stone Carvings with other works of art of the same theme(painted)in different periods in other regions,it can be found that with the development of the times and the transformation of the people's ideology and consciousness,the Buddhist statues and figures Gradually becoming more localized,the reasons for the changes in the costumes of Dazu and other regions in the same theme works are mainly affected by time,region,politics,culture,economy,humanities and other aspects.
