Research On The Artistic Characteristics And Activation Of Dazu Rock Furniture

As an outstanding representative of late grotto art,Dazu Rock Carvings is famous for cultural heritage as well as cultural resources which assemble history,art and science.In the context of today's multi-culture,national culture is good for the diversity of world cultural heritage.In terms of the artistic theory,This thesis attempts to make a research on the artistic characteristics and activation of Dazu rock furniture.There are 4 chapters in this thesis written on the basis of the literatures,realities,photos and pictures.Chapter 1 Introduction.Research background and value were set forth,then the topic of the artistic characteristics and activation of Dazu rock furniture was extracted after reviewing the research history.In view of the Dazu rock furniture is impartible from the Dazu Rock Carving Cultural Heritage,if the Dazu rock furniture were made more adaptive reuses,it would contribute to the protective inheritance and application of Dazu Rock Carvings cultural resources.Chapter 2 The artistic characteristics of Dazu rock furniture.The artistic characteristics of Buddhism furniture and the earthly living furniture were discussed in Chapter 2.There is a common notable feature that is Some height above the ground both Buddhism seats and couches.With the eastward-spread of Buddhism,Chinese seating posture changed from Sitting on heels to Sitting on seats.It is confirmed that high-profile seating furniture was popular in Song Dynasty by the earthly living furniture in Dazu Rock Carvings.If the high-profile seating furniture was the result influenced by Buddhism,The tripod backrest,composed of a circular arc top supported by three legs,was the wisdom of Chinese native culture.Chapter 3 A comparison of the furniture sculpted in Dazu rock and presented in paintings of Song Dynasty.The largest number of back-rest-chairs in Dazu rock and paintings indicated that sitting with upright foot and chairs were popular in Song Dynasty.The main body of the back-rest-chair is the frame structure with the changes which are curling model ox-head model and unbent model at the head position.By comparing the 137~thh niche in Beishan FoWan of Dazu and other paintings of Song Dynasty because of the same Vimalakirti theme,there are two kinds of couches,one is waist-shrunk model,the other one is waist-unshrunk model.With the back-rest-chair becoming more and more popular,the leaning function of the tripod backrest faded away little by little,it was the symbol of dignity that the tripod backrests were sculpted in Dazu Rock Carvings.Chapter 4 Activation of Dazu rock furniture.Firstly,the universal principles that guarantee the adaptive reuses of cultural heritage resources were illustrated.Secondly,this thesis brought forward two activating strategies,one is restoring mode which is necessary for the protection and inheritance of Dazu rock furniture entity.The other one is transferring mode which pay more attention to the exploitation of the informa-tion on history,art,science and religion as well as the utilization of their potential value,that is making the past serve the present.In the end,two energetic activating paths,which are the national education path and the cultural innovation industry path,were proposed in consideration of the cultural genes and art elements of Dazu rock furniture that is rich in civilization,publicity and beauty-appreciation.Thus,people will know more about the great history and the art beauty of Chongqing.
