| China’s construction industry has made great contributions to the national economy with the rapid development of urbanization process, which also consume a lot of resources and energy, resulting in a large number of carbon emissions and challenges to sustainable development at the same time. The construction industry has a major responsibility for reducing carbon emissions,it is of great significance to study the calculation and assessment of carbon emissions in the life cycle of the construction sector, which would be valuable to control the carbon emissions and promote the sustainable development of the construction industry.Firstly, the accounting scope of carbon emissions in construction industry is defined from the perspective of life cycle, and the calculation and assessment framework of carbon emissions in construction industry is established by LCA method. On the one hand, the process LCA model is used to calculate the carbon emission of the construction industry. The life cycle carbon emissions and carbon intensity of the construction industry in China from 2005 to 2013 is empirically analyzed from the national and regional levels. The results indicate that China’s construction industry carbon emissions is still growing rapidly each year, the carbon intensity of construction products has not yet been effectively improved, with obvious regional differences.Taking into account the coordination of the economy and the environment for sustainable development, environmental factor is added to the model of total factor productivity in the traditional construction industry,to construct a model of the total factors to evaluate the carbon efficiency of the construction industry. The carbon efficiency of the construction industry in each region is empirically analyzed. In term of space, the efficiency of the construction industry in our country is still quite different. The energy efficiency of the construction industry in the economically developed eastern areas are relatively high, and the central and western regions are relatively backward. In terms of period, the regions’ efficiency have been improved to some extent respectively, less developed areas have greater room for improvement. On the other hand, the input-output LCA is another method used to calculate the carbon emission model of the construction industry. The results show that the construction industry stimulates a large amount of carbon emissions from other sectors through the huge demand for consumption from the perspective of the life cycle of the industrial chain.Construction sector takes more than 30% of the overall emission responsibility, with increasing impacts. The construction industry interrelated among regions, the carbon footprint between regions is revealed through multiple region input-output model to describe emission characteristics of different regions’ construction. The method and results of this research provide a practical model for the analysis of life cycle carbon emissions in China’s overall and regional construction industry. The life cycle carbon emission of construction industry is discussed from the aspects of efficiency and fairness. The relevant results could be used as the basic data of policy making,to provide reference for the analysis of the carbon emission rights allocation mechanism. |
