| It would be difficult to find a more fundamental urban environmental issue than the rapid growth of waste level which not only endangers the environment and the health of residents,but also poses a major threat to social and economic development.It is clear that effective waste management is essential to the development of sustainable cities.Effectively carrying out the sorting and recycling of waste is the premise to solve the problem of ‘City Besieged by Waste'.Even though many cities across the country have developed their own policies or regulations on waste management but because the lack of systematic waste regulations,it is difficult to implement.The waste sorting is having little or no success because of the unclear responsibilities,low participation rate of citizens and the low efficiency of sorting.This paper analyzed the current city waste management regulations and summarized the process into four stages,which include the source,sorting,transportation and disposal of the waste based on Game Theory.We looked at the interactions between rational decision-makers in each of the four waste management stages.Static Information Game analysis has been done between government and industries on the source of garbage generation stage.Games are studied between the residents on the sorting process.We also investigated the Dynamic Games with complete Information between local and higher level of government during the waste transportation stage.Evolutionary Game theory is applied to explain the behaviors between government and industries at the garbage disposal stage.The above Game theory analysis on each individual player throughout the process can help us figure out the reasons why our waste management regulations cannot be implemented effectively,propose strategies to deal with waste,provide theoretical foundations for the policy makers to incorporate waste management into sustainability plan and eventually achieve waste reduction,reuse and resource. |
