With the amount of waste generated increasing, the phenomenon of"waste besieging the city" is becoming critical, and the issue of municipal solid waste management(MSWM)has caused widespread concern in the world because of its impact on environment. In recent years, the Chinese government has been vigorously advocating MSW source separation, promoting the integration of MSWM system and renewable resource recovery system to mitigate the environmental impact of MSW disposal. In response to national policies,it is particularly important to design a reasonable and feasible MSW classification management system. Therefore, based on the current status of the MSWM system, this paper combined different MSW classification methods and conducted research on greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions in environmental issues to determine the MSWM strategy with environmental advantages.Based on the greenhouse gas inventory guidelines and life cycle framework, the study evaluated the greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions under five defined MSWM scenarios including collection, transportation and disposal technologies of landfill, incineration and compost. And the GHG mitigation activities such as electricity generation from incineration and the recycling of recyclable waste were also considered. The results indicated that the scenario 5(that is,sorting and recycling food waste and recyclables with the residue incinerated)can achieve the maximum emission reduction rate of 70.82%.And the selection of the optimal strategy is not affected by changes in the separation rate.In addition, landfill emitted more GHG than incineration and compost.Secondly, the grey prediction model GM(1,1)established in this paper predicted the future volume of MSW in Beijing, and on this basis, this paper designed the MSW treatment plan in 2020 and 2025 using the pinch analysis(PA).The results showed that the mixed management model of MSW cannot meet the future GHG emissions reduction requirements.Separating food waste separately and achieving a separation rate of 56.36%can achieve the 2020 emission reduction target, but it cannot meet the emissions reduction requirement of 2025.Only by implementing the trichotomy method in which the food waste and recyclables are collected and treated separately can the emissions reduction target of 2025 be achieved. The results of this paper provide valuable information for government decision-making on MSWM when considering GHG emissions reduction targets.
