In recent years,China's social and economic development has made great achievements,but we must also see the irrational structure of industry and the imbalances development between urban and regional.The contradiction between the rapid development of industrialization and the ecological environment and other issues have become increasingly prominent.And that reduction of arable land,shortage of resources,environmental pollution,ecological degradation,disasters and other problems have become increasingly serious.How to ensure the Sustainable development of social,economic and ecological environment;how to scientificly layout the industrialization and urbanization,how to manpower the planning,rational use of land;how to effectively promote the construction of major projects,all of these problems propose requirement of geographic informationAt present,China's geographical conditions monitoring is still in its infancy.The related theory and practice results is not mature and research on the indicator system of monitoring object is still blank.So that building a clarified level,well-defined monitoring contents and indicator system to services for the geographical nationnal conditions monitoring project,to guarantee that geographical conditions monitoring,statistics,content and indicators of various departments is consistenncy.From the applications point of view of geographical conditions monitoring,this paper comprehensive analysis of the natural and humanistic geography elements.On the basis of existing discussion on the monitoring content classification,it identifies the monitoring content;According to the relevant norms of geographic conditions census,this article proposes that monitoring elements and census elements should be consistented.Adjusting the outcome of discussions to get the monitoring classification of this article.Based on the monitoring classification,it analysises each element and comprehensive choses the indicators that reflect the distribution situation,spatial patterns,changes in characteristics,trends of each classification,initial constructs a framework for monitoring indicators system.In order to fully demonstrate the status and change characteristics of the monitoring.element,this paper brokes down the indicators into three types,they are basic indicators,statistical indicators and analysis indicators.Finally,select the built-up areas of Macheng as the application of the monitoring object.According to the indicators listed in the indicators system of City built-up area,it extracts various indicators of the City built-up area to carry on corresponding statistical analysising and evalutioning the results and it obtains the present situation and general change characteristics of urban built-up area.the main conclutions of this article are as follows.1.At present,China's geographical conditions monitoring is still in its infancy.An unified content classification and indicator system has not yet been formed.Combine the basis of existing discussion on the monitoring content classification with the ongoing national geographic conditions census,it identifies the monitoring content classification,which enriches the theory of geographical conditions monitoring.2.The selection of indicators and the construction of indicator system is a complex project.In the process of the constructing indicator system,we must combine with the actual situation to choose the right method,in this paper,it use four methods to construct the indicator system.They are theory analysis,frequency statistics,comprehensive induction and property classification methods.we divide the indicator into three categories,so that you can understand the elements from different levels.3.With the mathematical statistics methods,it analysis the characteristics of city spatial expansion by extracting the indicators.The overall expansion characteristics are consistent with the urban master plan.,Suggesting that the indicator system of ueban build-up area can meet the demand of getting the distribution and changes characteristics.
