The Impact Of Knowledge Management On Effectiveness Of Lean Construction Implementation

Lean construction techniques are necessary as methods of lean implementation,and their impact on lean effectiveness has increasingly gained popular attention.However,in practice the application of lean techniques are not as effective as expectation due to the lack of knowledge on lean construction.In order to investigate the impetus of knowledge management on lean techniques effectiveness,this paper starts from “dynamic knowledge management” view to analyze the multiple mediating effect of knowledge management process,lean project-based knowledge and knowledge alignment on lean performance.This paper first introduced the origin and basic theory of lean construction.Then,we introduced knowledge management in the process of lean construction and studied the dynamic knowledge management framework of lean construction project.Authors elaborated how knowledge management process of lean construction project promotes the knowledge generation and strengthen the alignment of the knowledge which then helps to improve lean construction techniques effectiveness.Then,a theoretical model of lean techniques effectiveness influenced by dynamic knowledge management was constructed on the basis of the previous literature research and framework study.This paper used Structural Equation Model to test theoretical model.The results show that lean practice has a positive effect on lean performance through multiple mediation of knowledge management process,lean project-based knowledge and knowledge alignment.It shows that knowledge management plays an important role in the implementation of lean construction.Therefore,project managers should strengthen the acquisition,transformation and utilization of knowledge,enhance project document management and integrate knowledge of each party in the process of implementing lean practices to fulfill lean techniques great potential for improving lean performance.
