Since twenty-first Century, the laser radar technology has been widely applied in various fields of war defense, industrial production, transportation and environmental protection. However, some shortcomings have exposed, such as the energy attenuation affected by atmosphere, short detection distance, the blurred image and so on.No matter what kind of technology and materials has been used, the emission of the laser must be transmitted in the atmosphere when the laser radar is working. Therefore,in order to understand how laser radar is affected during work,we must understand the interaction mechanism between the photon and the atmospheric particles. This paper introduces the structure and characteristics of the earth's atmosphere at first, and point out that the influence on the laser transmission is close to the surface of the earth. Then, the paper illustrates the aerosol particle is the main factor of the attenuation in the near infrared band by analyzing the situation of the beam propagation in the troposphere. In the addition, the optical properties of aerosol particles are introduced in detail, including the absorption coefficient, scattering coefficient, scale parameter, refractive index, incident wavelength between, and the T-matrix method. In the meantime, the paper proposed the Monte Carlo photon multiple scattering model based on several commonly used radiation transfer analytical methods, and it is closer to the actual situation of light beam propagation compared with other methods and results. This paper also proposed a model based on the simulation method of multiple scattering photon finally established and combined it with T-matrix.The model is applied to the research on the performance of laser radar. The discussion the analysis of spherical and non spherical particles, multiple scattering, backscattering of the detection distance, backward echo signal, and proposes the suppression methods, provides a theoretical basis for improving the laser radar system.
