Backlight is an important part for Liquid Crystal Display Panels which is the mainstream products in display area. And Light Guide Plate(LGP) in the backlight is the most important component. Because of the deficiency of conventional LGP, which needs a lot of optical thin films which increased the cost of backlight when being used, the utilization ratio of conventional LGP is greatly decreased. Therefore, developing new kind of LGP is urgently needed. Highly Scattering Optical Transmission Polymer (HSOT) LGP, which is a new specie of LGP, has been studied in this paper.Based on Mie scattering theory and Monte Carlo method, we have developed a mathematical model for HSOT LGP. By analysing the calculated results, we have chosen out proper material for HSOT LGP and particles needed to be injected. And we have found some conclusions of how the varions factors, such as type, density, size of injected particles, relative index of refraction, size of LGP, etc, make contributions to the quality of LGP. The conclusions can provide a reliable basis for designing and making HSOT LGP.Material synthesis of PMMA with particles mixed is prepared by bulk polymerization, and the monodisperse effect of particles has been realized. By plastic injection molding prosess, samples of HSOT LGP with uniform parameters and high surface smoothness have been prepared. Some factors affecting sample quality have been found, such as melt temperature, injection volume, injection pressure, mold temperature and injection rate, etc. By comparing the results of theory and experiment, we have found both are closely anastomose. This shows that it is feasible to prepare LGP by using light scaterring theory and injecting partcles into polymer. The reasons for the differences between theory and experiment have been analyzed, and the improving plan has been also put forward in this paper.
