The straight tube butt welding machine which is used to extend short tubes to a certain length is an important part of the serpentuator welding production line. It has broad market prospects in raising the level of welding automation, improving welding efficiency, reducing labor intensity and ensuring welding quality.The PLC control system for the straight butt hot wire TIG welding machine was designed in this paper. The main work was focus on:Firstly, welding technology and the components of the straight tube butt welding machine were introduced. The welding machine using hot wire TIG welding technique is consists of four parts:force feeding device, hot wire welding power source, TIG welding machine and main machine. The tubes were transmitted by the force feeding device which was droved by frequency converter. The heat source was provided by the hot wire welding power source and the TIG welding machine. The main machine was used to complete the welding procession. The four parts run harmony to complete the tube welding.Secondly, according the welding, the control system was designed. The control system consists of PLC, touch panel, servo driver/servo motor, frequency converter and other devices. The electrical control circuit was designed; the selection and parameter settings of the devices were described.Thirdly, the PLC and touch panel program was designed according to the technique requirements. The program initialization, data processing, welding process, servo driver and frequency converter control and alarm processing were introduced in detail; the parameter configuration of touch panel, main screen, manual screen, specification call screen, specification configuration screen, debugging screen and alarm screen were described in detail.Finally, the system debugging process, which includes hardware debugging, software debugging and system commissioning, was introduced.Application results indicate that the system operates smoothly; it could repeat welding with high quality and meet the requirements.
