BackgroundGastroesophageal Reflux Disease(GERD)is a disease in which the contents of the stomach flow back into the esophagus, causing discomfort or complications. The disease is usually classified clinically as Reflux Esophagitis(RE),Barrett's Esophagus(BE),and Non-erosive Reflux Disease(NERD).As a prevalent digestive system disease worldwide,GERD's incidence rate has been increasing annually. Therefore, the treatment of GERD should arouse our attention. In recent years,Chinese medicine has achieved remarkable results in the treatment of this disease. As compared to modern medical treatment,Chinese medicine treatment of the disease has the advantages of minimal side effects, rapid onset of action, and significant effect. However,as the occurrence of the disease is closely related to lifestyle, emotional changes, eating habits, the severity of the symptoms may change rapidly. As such, the theory of Chinese medicine treatment of the diseases has not been perfected. Therefore,it is important to explore the experience of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)in treating GERD.Object and SignificanceThis study aims to employ modern scientific statistical methods to study the chinese herbal prescription pattern of GERD's treatment by Professor Zhang. This enables one to summarize and herbal medicine usage pattern in the treatment of GERD.This study can also provide more reference for the treatment of the disease.MethodsIn this study,a total of 150 GERD cases encountered in Professor Zhang's clinical practice from January 2017 to January 2018 were collected.A database containing patients'information and the medications was created using Microsoft Excel 2010 and analyzed by IBM SPSS Statics 20.0 and IBM SPSS Modeler 18.0.Results1?General data analysis results:Socio-demographic and information from four diagnosis were collected from the 150 GERD patients. The patients consist of 95 females and 55 males. The youngest at the age of 21,and the oldest at the age of 69,with a mean age of 50.74±12.49.2.Statistical Analysis about the law of using Chinese medicine:a total of 124 types of herbs were collected, with the cumulative use frequency of 2408.Analysis of high-frequency drugs shows that the commonly used drugs for mentors to treat the disease are divided into heat-clearing drugs, cough and phlegm-removing drugs,qi-regulating drugs, blood circulation and phlegm-removing drugs, diuresis and water infiltration drugs,interior-warming drugs, detoxification drugs, and tranquilizers, astringent medicine, liver wind calmed drug, hemostatic medicine, tonic medicine. The property of drugs used were mainly cold drugs, warm drugs, and mild drugs. The use of cool drugs and thermal drugs were less. The flavor of herbs engaged were mainly bitter, pungent, and sweet, and salty and sour were least used. The selected drugs were mainly acting on the spleen, liver and lung meridian.Through cluster analysis and correlation analysis, the commonly used drugs, drug pairs and core drug combinations for the treatment of GERD by professor Zhang were summarized and analyzed.ConclusionThe mentor perceives the occurrence of GERD as a result of the interaction of liver, gallbladder, spleen, and stomach and is especially related to liver qi and liver fire.During treatment, the main principles are soothing liver and regulating qi,clearing liver fire, and regulating stomach for ascending qi.According to the different syndromes, the treatment methods regulating qi and relieving stuffiness of the chest diaphragm, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, inhibiting gastric acid and relieving pain, promoting digestion and removing food stagnation are often be used. The selected drugs act on the liver, spleen, lung meridians. The main drugs were heat-clearing drugs, cough and phlegm-relieving drags, and qi-regulating drugs.Meanwhile,Professor Zhang also considers the results of the patient's endoscopy test, and the impact of syndromes as a guide when choosing the herbal medication.
