Objective: To observe the clinical effect of core strength training on patients with thoracolumbar compression fractures. Methods: 137 cases of patients with thoracolumbar compression fractures who received treatment from rehabilitation department of Sichuan orthopedic hospital between January 2010 and December 2016 were studied in this paper. The training group consists of patients receiving core strength training and rehabilitation therapy, while the physical therapy group was composed of patients receiving only rehabilitation therapy. The physical therapy group adopted regular therapies of acusector, infrared, massage and traditional Chinese medicine fumigation whereas the training group added core strength training in addition, including five-point supporting method, deep breathing exercises, arch bridge exercises, unilateral bridge exercises etc.VAS score,JOA score of low back pain,ADL score,ODI score and lumbar segment motion as observation indexes were measured before treatments and 2,4,6 weeks after treatments.Measurement data in accordance with normal distribution used t-test,otherwise used M-W test;Semi-measurement data used nonparametric test or independent sample t-test;Unranked measurement data used X2 teat;Ranked measurement data used Ridit test,if significance test level ?=0.05,P take bilateral value. Results: Before treatment, the difference between two groups was not statistically significant(p>0.05)in VAS score,JOA score of low back pain,ADL score and ODI score, which offered a comparison.2 weeks after treatment, the training group scored more than the physical therapyl one,VAS score was statistically significant(p<0.05),while the rest were not.4 weeks after treatment, the training group scored more than the physical therapy one,VAS score and ADL score were statistically significant(p<0.05),while the rest were not.6 weeks after treatment, the training group scored more than the physical therapy one,all observation indexes were statistically significant(p<0.05).Two groups both showed statistically significant difference in intra-group comparison after 6 weeks of treatments, the score after clearly exceed the score before. In between-group comparison of lumbar segment motion, the training group had superior forward bending, backward extension, lateral bending and rotation than the physical therapyl one and forward bending motion has significant difference(p<0.05),while the rest has not. Conclusion: The core strength training is beneficial in improving clinical symptoms of patients with thoracolumbar compression fractures, activities of daily living and quality of life, relieving pain and restoring lumbar segment motion. It is simple, safe, easy and have precise curative effect, worth clinical promotion.
