Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effects of ischemic compression, core strength training and combined therapy on pain, flexibility and dynamic balance of patients with myofascial pain syndrome,in which college students with low back myofascial pain syndrome were selected as subjects, and different intervention measures were adopted in each group. Methods: Ninety-seven volunteers with myofascial low back pain, were randomly placed into 4 groups: group A(n=25),which received ischemic compression combined with core strength training;group B(n=24),which received ischemic compression alone;group C(n=24),which received core training;group D(n=24),which received sham ultrasound.Assessment and evaluation of pain intensity, body flexibility, and dynamic balance ability using VAS and PSFS scales,sit-reach test, and Y balance test,respectively.Results:(1)The results showed the pain level of group A,group B and group C was lower than that of group D(p < 0.01)after one treatment, the decrease of pain in group A showed a more significant immediate effect(p < 0.01).There was no statistical difference between group B and group C(p > 0.05).(2)The results of sit-reach test in group A(p < 0.01),group B(p < 0.05)and group C(p < 0.05)were all greater than group D,but there was no statistical difference between the three groups(p > 0.05).(3)The Y balance test comprehensive score in group A(p < 0.01),group B(p < 0.05)and group C(p < 0.01)was higher than that in group D,and group A had the most significant immediate effect(p < 0.05).There was a statistical difference between group B and group C(p < 0.05).Conclusion: Whether the ischemic compression alone or the core strength training or the combined treatment was shown to have an immediate effect on pain relief, the improvement of the body flexibility and dynamic balance ability. The combination treatment had more immediate positive effects on pain intensity and dynamic balance ability, while the core strength training alone was better than ischemic compression on the immediate improvement of dynamic balance ability. The immediate effect of different treatments on flexibility were not significant.
