The main subject of this paper is to describe the development and verification of a defibrillator monitor used in emergency medical service environment to meet EMC requirements. The defibrillator monitor is mainly used to rescue and transport patients who got sudden cardiac arrests. There are rigid requirements of safety and reliability for this product.Compare with consumer products, there are stricter requirements for medical devices, especially for devices related human life.Defibrillator is such a kind of medical device. The newly released international standard IEC 60601-1-2:2014 puts forward a higher requirement.Take ESD as an example, contact discharge is raised from 6000 voltage to 8000 voltage, air discharge is raised from 8000 voltage to 15000 voltage. In additional,to avoid delivering very high voltage to patient or operator by mistake, the device shall have the ability to stand up to a strong interference like 20 V/m radiated interference. It's much higher than consumer products which require 3 V/m radiated interference only.To meet the above requirements,we've made many improvements on product design, like signal integrity, filter circuit,ESD-protect circuit, software error detection and protection method. After design review, debugging and verification repeatedly for many times, these methods are proved to be effective and efficient to get rid of all kinds of EMC issues, making the product very reliable and safe.
