As a subsystem of the catering industry, the wireless order system is designed to reduce the labor force cost and improve the quality and efficiency of the service. Working with this system, the waiter can use a palm-handled terminal to accept the consumers’ orders instead of recording them on paper. The terminal then transmits these orders to the service center quickly via electromagnetic wave and the processing result returned soon. The waiters don’t need to go and back between the service desk and the dining desks and the guests’ requests are submitted without delay. Satisfaction of the guests is improved as well as the waiters’ working efficiency.The task is put forward under the background of taking advantage of the chances and challenges in the catering industry by the technology of the intelligent automation. In the paper the key steps of the system has been designed and checked and the major research orientation of the system has been set forth. The paper consists of the discussion of the working principle and designing of the hardware and the software of the system in terms of market requirements. The hardware includes the minimum system of a single chip microprocessor, the power supply, LCD1602 display circuit and the keyboard circuit, and so on. The major working in the designing of the software contains the initialization of the system,the flow path of the software and the programming of the upper computer. In the end, the way of the adjustment, results of test and operation and analysis of the system are elaborated.The ultimate achievement in hardware of the system is that wireless communication module is divided into sending part and receiving part under the control of SCM. In the sending part, data are generated by the SCM, and they are sent by the module through the microcontroller serial port, and in the receiving part, module receives data, and the data are displayed by the universal serial port under the control of microcomputer. This order system has a promising market and practical utility because of the simple design, software portability, low cost, low power consumption, high reliability and so on.
