| Nowadays,the development of barrage video websites enters a new era.As a niche and novelty media type,barrage is developing quickly and already becomes a cultural phenomenon.As one of representations of Chinese sub-culture,barrage is gradually affecting the mainstream culture both in form and in text structure.Barrage is not limited to the traditional sub-culture form,but is more and more introduced by other media platform like Tecent video and Aiqiyi website,even some music software and mobile apps also introduce barrage to their users as one of their latest features.Therefore,the study of barrage communication is not only of great value but also of great practical significance.The author starts from the classical cultivation theory,analyzing how the niche of barrage reached a consensus for the audience.The author tries to reveal how barrage reveals the "symbolic reality" and affects the audience's media habits and preferences in a subtle way in this thesis.The author takes Bilibili website as an example to continue the study.Bilibili is the biggest and the most famous barrage video website in China.It observes how barrage is introduced to China and how it is influenced other forms of media.Nowadays,the academic circle has studied the barrage for more than ten years and the researches on it are beginning to take shape.However,it is rare to study the spread of the barrage with the perspective of cultivation analysis.Besides,the main features of barrage websites are uploading videos and then posting barrage by audience who watch these videos,even videos,barrage and audience are three most important components in this analysis.The thesis aims at discovering the nature and features of barrage,as well as the invasion and influence of barrage to mainstream culture and other aspects,based on the relationship between barrage and video audience.The analysis process starts from collecting data,the author did web data crawling for top videos in each section on Bilibili website.After data cleaning,the author got more than 10,000 pieces of barrage and reached more than 6,000 terms frequency.After obtaining the analytical data of the barrage text,the analysis begins from when barrage introduced China,analyzing the features of the barrage from its content,font color and primer barrage,also doing analysis from the perspective of Bilibili website users.In the next section,the author analyzes the word frequency using statistics methods and utilizes cultivation theory to explain the high degree of consistency of some barrage texts among different sections in Bilibili website and proves the influence which barrage made on users' website using habits.What's more,in this part,the author also states that barrage has become e of the most important part in videos at Bilibili website.On one hand,the barrage is one of special features of Bilibili website.On the other hand,because the logic presentation in barrage is delayering,other than the traditional comment part or in cyberword "Gai Lou",which is usually below the video,the website users also video audience are willing to use barrage to add comments to videos,which is also a way to show self-presentation.After analyzing barrage data with cultivation theory,the thesis moves on and tries to explain that except for providing consistency with content,how barrage makes influence on mainstream culture.Because of its features such as uniqueness,exclusion,which is independent,exclusive and plurality,barrage is not only a sub-culture with various features,but also a quick and easy way to mainstream culture"invasion".From the "invasion",problems are also observed,for example,the dominating language using appears to be the tendency of over-entertainment,vulgar and simple in semantic.As a unique sub-culture,barrage attracts many supporters though barrage is formed through because it is formed through splitting,refining and reprocessing the original content from media and has its unique attractiveness.Just as the appearance of televisions a few decades ago,the "cultivation" to website users is subtle and long-term.In these years,people have been infiltrating the complex symbolic environment created by the new media,wherever barrage was born out of new media.It is precisely because of the nature of the new media that the extension of barrage has been greatly expanded.The existence of the barrage itself is to confront the domainate discourse,but currently barrage is gradually affecting the mainstream culture,and its features like mainstreaming and resonance are just the cultural shackles that it once tried to break.In the last part of the thesis,the author analyzed the challenges of becoming the dominating discourse that barrage will face in the future.In one way,barrage now develops quickly and toughly,but it is still not popular among the majority since it is recognized in vulgarly manner and hard to understand sometimes.In another way,the authors states that for now the "cultivation" through barrage doesn't show the positive influence on website users as expected.To keep barragc culture development in beneficial way,thought and methods should be designed to manage with control and guidance. |
