Research On Application Interface Icon Design Based On Cognition Of The Elderly

With the rapid development of modern information technology,the graphical user interface has been widely used in computers and handheld devices,and it has greatly facilitated the use of smart phones by users.With the acceleration of the aging of the population,the demand for smart phones continues to grow.The interface design of senile smart phone should meet the cognitive characteristics and emotional needs of elderly users,making it easy to operate.As the key element of interface navigation,icons play an important role in the interaction between aging users and interfaces.This study aims to solve the problem of the elderly with existing difficult identifing icon,it can help to reduce the cognitive burden of the elderly,improve the user experience of old people using smart phone,to make it better adapt to the information society,to improve their happiness which was accepted by the society.First this article introduces the characteristics of cognitive function in the elderly and the related concepts of smart phone interface icon,and situation research of the use of smart phones and mobile application,according to the results of the survey analysis,sums up a problem for the old people use smart phones and six APP which use frequency is highest in the elderly.Based on the collection of the six major functional areas within the App icon as experiment material,then design eye tracking experiment exploring the attraction of different rendering mode of the icon for the elderly,the icon of six kinds of rendering mode is as follows:line+positive background(C1),plane_+negative background(C2),line+negative background(C3),plane+negative background(C4),line+positive background(C5)and plane+no background(C6).After the experiment,interview and subjective satisfaction surveys were conducted to collect the emotional evaluation and satisfaction information of the participants.Then design the elderly smartphone APP interface icon recognition experiment,theidentification of application interface icons was studied,then draws the icon style that old people easily cause confusion,and the factors influencing the identification results were explored.and then make the young and the elderly to participate in the icon design,through the comparative analysis and the results,summed up the match with the elderly cognitive characteristics of icon design.Finally,based on the experimental results and the investigation interview,an objective set of APP interface icon design principles is summarized.The results of this study hope to provide reference and support for the design of mobile interface icons in the elderly.
