The Research On The Elderly People’s Identification Degree Of The Smart Phone’s Icons

With the rapid development of modern information era, smart phones have become an irreversible trend to replace the tradition ones. With the aging trend in China, we can no more underestimate the rapidly growing population of the Chinese elderly people and growing need of smart phone. The UI, which is short for user interface, is referred to the collection of interactive methods between phone users and interior phones system. And the research on UI is becoming more and more important in the research of smart phone. Through the research of the icons design which is the core elements of the smart phone’s UI, we can improve their ability using smart phones and get more happiness for the elderly people, and it can reduce the government’s expenditure too.The research firstly introduced the elderly people’s chang es from physical and psychology and their problems when using smart phone. Then we list the mainstream smart phone design for the elderly people and the research on the elderly people’s smart phone in China and abroad. We classify the smart phone’s icons as skeuomorphism and flattening by their visual style. Then design a questionnaire by using the collected icons which is classified. The research is aimed to get the elderly people’s identification degree results and the affecting factor of the smart phone’s icons through the interview questionnaire and online questionnaire. Based on it, we can conclude the smart phone icons’ design methods. To let the research have more persuasion, the research use the statistical software SPSS’s "Descriptive Statistics" and "ANOVA" tools to get the identification results and the comparison between different factors which can influence the elderly peoples’ identification degree. Then we redesign the smart phone’s UI icons b y using the new methods which is concluded by the research. And the design prototype has to be evaluated to verify the availability of the design methods.
