With the development of China's economy and society, food and medicine safety issues always count on a big issue among people's life.Last year, illegal vaccine event in China's Shandong province caused people's discontent and distrust of medical and pharmaceutical supervision, and their moral critics on people who sold illegal medicines.Food and medicine safety issues not only make normal people headache, also attract many media.Compared with American media's report on food and medicine safety issues in the U.S.and its social influence,Chinese media's report on the same fields is characterized with less social influence,so it hardly pushes China's relevant laws and rules to change and improve. It cannot benefit much to the sustainable development of China's food and medicine fields, and people's health.Hence, the report cannot realize journalism's objectivism and adjust society as a good lever. This paper is aimed to compare and study Chinese and American media's report on big national food and medicine issues, and their characteristics, trends and social meaning, therefore,it can provide Chinese media some meaningful suggestions to improve their report on China's food and medicine in future. This study, with the employing of qualitative research and quantitative research, adopts literature material method and contents analysis to compare and study report on food and medicine safety issues from People's Daily,Southern Metropolis Daily, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal in 2006-2016.According to the paper,it's found that China's media can learn from the American media to be more timely, consistent, objective, and keep people informative of food and medicine safety issues and solutions,to make efforts to guard China's food and medicine safety.Hopefully, the study can give some hints to Chinese government,China's media and improvement of Chinese people's literacy of food and medicine safety and media literacy.
