Implementation of MES(Manufacturing Execution Systems)has always been a challenge for SME due to limited resources,and technical support.The traditional MES system is very complex,requiring vast investment in software,hardware and consultancy,with low success rate.It tends to deterred the customer from implementing such system.With current global economic enterprises have to face fierce competition in the market.Enterprises need to improve the core competitiveness and profitability ability to quickly respond to market demand.The investment into a MES system to retrieve real time information and production cost is vital issue.This research focus a methodology to implement MES that is suitable for SME,the case study is conducted on the specific client.The revised implementation method in four major milestones they are project preparation,blueprint design,realization,user acceptance.The approach is based on project management as the managerial tool,with professional consultant using “industry-specific template” and “industry-specific knowledge base” to achieve fast,simple and efficient solution.This study proposed a MES solution which will achieve the following:1.This will provide a suitable MES solution enable SME low-cost,low risk and rapid successful implementation.This will enable real time production status,and production cost.2.The proposed “industry-specific template” solution to be utilized by different industry,different process and design individual MES template.This will prevent massive customization due to a specific industry implementation,as well as incur high support and maintenance cost.In conclusion this research for industry specific MES implementation for SME can provide a practical guideline for business planning.
