A Study Of China Narrative In TED Talk

With the rise of China,the world is increasingly concerned about China.TED Congress as the most popular speech platform focuses on the growing numbers of topic in China.Based on TED's official website to search on China 50 speech(six of them focused on China)as samples,studied from the perspective of narratology in-depth study of elite,academic TED talk is how about China and how to describe China,to explore the western mainstream society's perception of China and for China's foreign,offer reference for the China story.In this article,through content analysis and text analysis,case analysis research of the TED talk about China's image and narrative strategies.From the analysis of the contents of the sample can be seen,TED speech in a negative image of China described mostly focused on social,environment,religious and other aspect,but most positive description for construction achievement in the field of economy after reform and opening up.It is not difficult to see that these elite and scholars have a certain degree of understanding of China in the areas involving their own professionalism,such as the views and affirmations of economists on the pattern of economic development with Chinese characteristics,but above all still cannot understanding of China's Development Road and Socialism.To its reason,inertia,asymmetric information between Chinese and Western and the differences in ideology lead to the prejudice and misunderstanding of Western elites by Chinese scholars.On the other hand,because of the academic nature of the TED conference and the diversity of the audience,it requires that the lecture content should not only retain the academic professional level but also take into account the acceptance of the audience.So they use “Narrative “+”story” as their Narrative strategy.The professional level of the speaker is manifested in the vague expression of self-view,balanced discourse narrative and the use of data.For the views of western scholars misunderstanding the Chinese image in all aspects,the author has issued our voices to explain the Chinese system,eliminate the historical bias and draw lessons from the narrative strategy of TED speech mode,and let the world know a real,friendly and peaceful development China.
