Image compression technology can reduce the redundant information in the graphics,and with a certain quality as the premise,the technology can do efficient data storage and transmission.JPEG2000 is one of the most advanced image compression standards,which has the advantages of low bit error rate,lossless compression,progressive transmission and so on.However,the JPEG2000 algorithm is complicated,the design time is long,and the modification is difficult,which hinders the advancement of the JPEG2000 compression standard.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the implementation of the JPEG2000 image compression system.This design uses FPGA and ADV212 to achieve static image compression.FPGA selects XC5VSX50 T,which is used to realize the timing control and data processing;ADV212 is a JPEG2000 codec chip and it is used for image compression;the data generated by the code flows through the FPGA internal FIFO register to RS422;and the data is transferred to the computer through the RS422/232 converter,the host reads the data through the serial port.This system is flexible and reliable,it can compress the PAL static image(720×288)and large size image(1920×1080),because of the sampling volume of ADV212 data,the PAL image only need a piece of ADV212 to realize compression,while the large size image need two ADV212 for coordination and handling.Finally,the PAL compression images is used to do some tests through changing the JEPG2000 parameters,PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio)and MSE(mean square error)are adopted to measure the quality of the reconstructed image.The results show that the image distortion is inversely proportional to the compression ratio.And the image quality is better when the wavelet transform series is above 3 level;meanwhile,The more data is transmitted,the better the image quality.Based on the above design,the system is flexible and reliable,and it can realize the compression of the static image,and the reconstructed image can achieve better results in both subjective vision and objective evaluation.
