With the rapid development of spectral imaging technology, high-resolution massdata collected by imaging spectrometer and the limited transmission and storage media,we need compress image before the transmission and storage firstly.Considering thelack of real-time for data collection at the site and different compression algorithms fordifferent ones,the author researched and designed a set of hardware compression systemafter fully analyzing spatial correlation and spectrum characteristics.The system isbased on JPEG2000compression standard. Through theoretical analysis andexperimental proof, the compression scheme for hyperspectral data is good.Distortionis small and the reconstructed image is visible clearly.The reason for using hardware compression scheme is that hardware compressionsystem has the advantage of real-time. The author in the study of many literatures onthe JPEG2000compression and found that most of those are belong to softwareprocessing. Many of the software algorithms have simulation results and no practicalsolution, some points remain at the theoretical level only and do not take practical step.At the same time,software compression depends mainly on CPU and software systems,occupancy rate of system resource is big and can not achieve real-time processing in allthe line.Instead, the hardware compression scheme for sharing tasks of the host-specificheavy computing, so the system resource usage is small and processing speed is quick.As a new generation of static image compression standards, JPEG2000has manyadvantages than JPEG. Based on digital micromirror device (DMD),hadamardtransform(HT) is a new kind of spectral imaging technology and is becoming a hottopic with the development of the MEMS technology. In view of these considerations,we designed the hardware real time compression system to code hyperspectral imagewhich comes from hadamard transform spectral imager. After depth study of theJPEG2000compression standard, this paper proposed a new hardware design ofreal-time system based on FPGAand ADV212for HT spectral data based on DMD.In this system, FPGA is responsible for logic control as well as auxiliary datatransmission and ADV212is a codec chip for special JPEG2000compression. Throughthe realization of the new compression algorithm on the designed haraware system, it is obvious that FPGA and ADV212based on SoC system with small size have highcalculation speed and site programmable characters, and can solve the real-timeproblem which is lack when using software system.Experiments show that, compression system based on FPGA+ADV212forhigh-resolution DMD HT spectral data is feasible. This compression proposal providesa transmission security for high SNR and high-quality original images.In addition,real-time applications lay a good technical foundation of target detection andrecognition. Obviously, this compression proposal has important practical significanceon the civil and military.
