Today, plastic film is used much extensively in industry, agriculture and food packaging industry, whether domestic or export has a broad market. Film width is an important indicator of enterprise products, and the market demand of film width accuracy is being higher and higher, so film width measurement in the production process is also very important.With the continuous development of image processing and machine vision technology, all walks of life increase investments in this area, the technological achievements have been applied in many fields. Vision-based measurement techniques of these theories, has the advantages of noncontact, high speed, high precision, especially in applications of dimensional measurement, it also has advantages of real-time measurements in the complex environment of the factory conditions.After the study of visual measurement technique, combined with the actual background in production and precision of business requirements, develop a broad vision measurement system based on FPGA, the system can complete online measurement of the width of the plastic film. The system uses CMOS image sensor, image acquisition is completed by the FPGA, to give value to calculate the width, and sent to the host computer via the serial port to achieve real-time monitoring purposes. System hardware mainly consists of FPGA core board, CMOS image sensor; software part includes FPGA design software Quartus II, ModelSim simulation software and PC software Visual Basic 6.0, etc; the system also for the object to be measured for the properties of plastic film, the light source carried out the selection and design, while the system calibration technique were related to be studied.This system built in the article can effectively measure the width of the film, which can achieve the measurement accuracy of ± 0.5mm. For the production of non-conforming products, FPGA will control the ink-jet and other operations through I/O output port on that period the film, at the same time the upper computer will count and display qualified and unqualified products.
