In recent years, the pace of development of China’s manufacturing industry is very fast,but the development of manufacturing technology can’t be seperated from the development of measuring. Machine vision detection technology as a kind of non-contact measurement has become the important part of the measurement technique. The technology has been widely used in industrial production because of the characteristics of large range, high precision.The research, which comes from key issue of Provincial Science and Technology, on the machine vision technology is used in a continuous casting fixed weight system. With the rapid development of three-dimensional measurement technology, these goals can be achieved,such as raising the casting on the accuracy of the weight, reduce the waste to produce probability error. Line-structured light vision inspection technology is suitable to the continuous casting fixed weight system. In this paper, according to measurement principle and measurement method of linear structured light, a mathematical model for the casting weight of continuous casting is established; based on the camera calibration method, the non-distortion measurements are used to correct the errors, thus distortion correction can be transformed into target optimization problem, and it can avoid distortion parameters and other parameters of the camera to being coupled. After the distortion correction has been completed, according to pinhole imaging model, we can calculate the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of the camera. In addition, the system also includes a calibration of linear structured light sensor, and traditional calibration methods were abandoned because of low accuracy, such as wire drawing method, serrated target method and so on. We have made a calibration method comparison from based on rectangular-shaped dot target to planar dot target, and the measurement accuracy can be improved obviously. After the CCD camera obtained image information, the computer would carry on image processing steps, they include filtering processing, binarization processing, subpixel extraction, a series of technical processing also makes it easier for the original image more accurate to extract key information.In the laboratory, the continuous casting and heavy vision inspection system has been built, and it is an important basis for the study of continuous casting fixed weight system.At the mean time, the Task Force has developed a software of continuous casting fixed weight system, and the program has been written by using MATLAB software, so it cansimplify the actual measurement process steps, the software places may be still inadequate,but the future will continue to be improved.
