Zhang Jian,who is a famous industrialist and educator in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China period,and fully understood the function of the museum,established China's first public musem: Nantong Museum.Educational theory community has made a large amount of research on general situation of the museum,collection of cultural relics and collection on display,but has seldom discussed the origin of the theory on the thought: establishing a museum for education and its practice mechanism.Nowadays,education function of the museum continues to stand out.Zhang Jian's thought: establishing a museum for education corresponds to today's reposition of the museum function.So this paper,whose title is on Zhang Jian's thought: establishing a museum for education digs into the thought's connotation and its historic values to enrich the research on Zhang Jian's education thought and provide references for contemporary Chinese museum education.This paper mainly adopts document analysis,comparison and the field investigation,combs through educational theory connotation and practice mechanism of Zhang Jian's thought: establishing a museum for education,analyses his thought's historical contributions and practical significance and employs the educational activities of Nantong Museum as a case study to build the basic model of the contemporary museum education,and provide theoretical guidance for contemporary museum education.Having doing research,we find Zhang Jian's thought: establishing a museum for education embodies his political ambition and personal opinions in practice.The museum plays a unique role in assisting in teaching,popularizing scientific and cultural knowledge and developing people's intelligence,such as providing experiments for physics teaching,and agricultural knowledge for farmers.Zhang Jian's ideological theory and practical experience are very helpful for the accurate positioning of the function of contemporary museum education.
