News is not the complete reflection of social reality,but the construction of reality.When the media reports news,it will be based on a certain framework to select,remove and emphasize information.The media's social orientation and political position,the reporter's emotional attitude and cognitive structure will affect the choice of the framework.After the founding of new China,China and the Soviet Union(Russia)went through "honeymoon period",as well as felt the effects of conflict.From Gorbachev,Yeltsin to Putin,it's not only the period of the disintegration of the Soviet Union,the end of the cold war,the changing world situation,but also the period of the gradual normalization of the relations between China and the Soviet Union(Russia).Changes in foreign policy,national interests and other political factors,or the media's own position,will affect reportages on Soviet(Russian)leaders by People's Daily.The study used the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.First,the study analyzed the overall situation and characteristics of reportages on Gorbachev,Yeltsin,Putin by People's Daily,involving the pages,length,type,theme,attitudes and resources of information and.And then the study used the text analysis to analyses specific reporting strategies of People's Daily,explored the media image of leaders in reports of People's Daily,and by comparing the reports in different periods,reveal the main factors affecting the report.The study found that People's Daily uses a stable framework for reportages on Gorbachev,Yeltsin and Putin.People's Daily uses objective and neutral way of reporting,the agenda set enphasis on the aspect of the internal and external political activities.There are not many reports about personal attributes.Most of reportages placed in the international news version,and news about China is often placed on the front page.Reportages about relationship between China and Russia are positive,avoid sensitive issues and conflicts.But during different periods types,themes and subjects have changed.The media image of Gorbachev is a new type of leader,but also a failed reformer;The media image of Yeltsin is a pro-Western radical reformer,the defender of interests of Russian,a Machiavellian.Putin's media image is a pragmatic and tough leader,the egalitarian and folksy president,a political legend created by times.The main factors that influence the reportages of People's Daily are political factors,newsfactors and the construction of image by leaders.People's Daily is considered a mouthpiece for the party and the government.Reportages would be affected by the Sino Soviet(Russia)relations and the changes of China's policy towards the Soviet Union(Russia).Styles of People's Daily,the purpose of running a newspaper,concept of news,presentation,construction of images by leaders affect slectione and expression of the news.
