The 18 th CPC National Congress proposed to promote the rule of law in an all-round way.The lawyers are legal practitioners of socialism with Chinese characteristics and important forces to implement the basic strategy of governing the country according to law and to build a socialist country under the rule of law.The lawyer groups have been bounded up with a variety of social contradictions because of the accelerating transformation of society.The public evaluation of the lawyer has always been uneven,at all times and in all countries.With the rapid development of the media,the new media and we media had begun to show a strong influence.The public media exposure gradually become more frequent and plentiful,in which the image of lawyers has undergone a corresponding change.This study summarizes the characteristics of news media,microblog and public cognition of the image of lawyers,and explores their relationships,which is based on the perspectives of communication,sociology and cognitive psychology.The author wishes to provide a reference for objective and balanced media reports on lawyers in the future and to provide some practical inspiration for lawyers to improve their own image in the we media.There are three research questions in this paper.First,what is the image of lawyers constructed by the news media,which caused impacts on the public cognition? Second,what kind of image do the lawyers construct by themselves via microblog? Whether the microblog becomes an important media channel for public cognition of the image of lawyers? Thirdly,what is the public cognition of the image of lawyers? What is the relationship between the media construction of the image of lawyers and the public cognition?In the chapter I,the author finds that lawyers' good image with a tendency towards the positive side is constructed in news with neutral news,according to the content analysis and text analysis on two newspapers,"Southern Metropolis Daily" and “Legal Daily”.Lawyers' multiple image characteristics including caring about public affairs and undertaking individual cases were constructed.They popularize legal knowledge and answer questions as specialists.However,lawyers are also victims who rights are vulnerable and sophisticated violators or offenders.In the chapter II,the author finds that the constructed image of lawyers is out of fixed occupation identity and the real image with rich personal life,which has the characteristics of caring for the vulnerable and having the courage to fight and sharp words,according to the content analysis and text analysis on four samples in microblog including Susheng Chi's case.At the same time,they constructed the image of working hard,with serious attitude and professional rights and interests being easy to be affected via microblog by themselves.It is found in the chapter III that public cognition of image of lawyers is that they are vague,professional occupational groups with medium impressions,high income and high social status,through the questionnaire survey of citizens and text analysis of the microblog commentary from lawyers.The connection and comparison between the previous three chapters indicates that the public image of lawyers is affected by media.Microblog began to break the media stereotypes in the subjective image,but it did not completely shake the authoritative positions of the news.Negative media information is easier to have affective effects on public cognition.
