Research On The Reporting Framework Of Violent And Terrorist Events Of The Mainstream Media Of Britain And America

The mass media,as the medium of information dissemination and guidance of public opinion,plays an important role in the process of combating terrorism.However,some of the world's mainstream media,such as the United States media and the British media,when they report the news about terrorist attacks they choose and construct different reporting frameworks,due to the cultural background,social systems,values and linguistic factors,and such a "double standard" has been controversial.Therefore,this paper selected the news and reports about the "3.1" accident of Kunming and the "11.13" accident of Paris on American newspapers "New York Times" and the British newspapers "The Times" as research samples,and according to the number,the titles,the reference sources,background materials and other aspects of news and reports to study the characteristics of news and reports about terrorist attacks occurred in different countries,in order to understand the reporting framework and reasons used by the mainstream media in reporting the terrorist incidents.In the study,it was found that there were some differences in the British and American mainstream media coverages about terrorist attacks occurred in different countries,such as the degree of event concern,the choice of words and the choice of news elements like news sources and background materials under the reporting framework.In this regard,the author believes that this is caused due to the unclear definition of "terrorism",the existence of discourse hegemony in Western media as well as the national interests.In view of the current situation,the author puts forward some measures,our country should not only call on the international community to standardize the definition of terrorism as soon as possible,but also actively introduce the current national situation to the international community and grasp the rights to speak out.At the same time,our country should actively look for the supports from the third party by the influence of which to let the international community to re-understand China,and establish a good international image.Finally,it is expected that the readers who learn the things of China through the Western media reports have more discrimination,and also hope to promote the governments use the mass media to form a powerful environment for public opinion against terrorism.
