The Analysis Of Stephen Weil's Museum Evaluation Matrix

In this thesis,we analyze and study the background,details,applications of Stephen Weil's museum evaluation matrix and expect to bring some reference to domestic museum assessment work.This thesis is divided into four parts:First part,in our introduction,the necessity of museum evaluation is proposed.We think that the museum evaluation in China is still at the level of “resource”.Though there is some exploration for "quantitative" method,it is still in the stage of exploration.It is extremely necessary to learn advanced experience of western museum.The method of evaluation matrix is the outstanding representative.We also conclude and analyze the papers related to Stephen Weil's museum evaluation matrix from all over the world.Second part,we introduce the background of Stephen Weil's museum evaluation matrix.It mainly includes the two parts,external condition and inner condition.The rise of performance management and evaluation,the reform and the policy from American government and the support from the government the foundation and the industry association are its external condition.The influence of museum evaluation,the effect from Stephen Weil's ideas and the internal force influence from the Matrix formation and revision are its inner condition.Third part,Stephen Weil's museum evaluation matrix and its appraisement will be discussed.It is pointed out that Weil's matrix is a way to evaluate the success or failure of the museum running.The content and scope of application,also the method of evaluating matrix are introduced in detail.We analyzed three other kinds of Evaluate ideas and methods contemporary.Compared with Stephen Weil's matrix theory,we found the advantage and limitation of Weil's theory.Fourth part,there is an instance analysis by applying Stephen Weil's theory.The Metropolitan Museum of Art is set as a sample.According to the basic elements of the museum evaluation matrix,we attempt to evaluate the Metropolitan Museum from its part of the work,activity and operational efficiencies,and reveal the matrix concrete application in the evaluation practice.
