Nowadays,human beings pay attention to a healthy way and the quality of living that makes health communication more and more popular.A mainly source that audience get healthy information is from mass media which enhances a dependence consciousness of the audience.The healthy information of mass media not only enhance a conscious of prevent disease,but also influences the behavior of audience.Recently,with a sharp increasing number of diabetes,newspapers increase coverage of diabetes.Using healthy communication opinions do the research to report diabetes information and audience cognition.In order to find out the differences and similarities of Chinese and American diabetes coverage,this research chooses the time from 11.14.2007 to 11.14.2012 in People's Daily and New York Times and applies the content method to both two newspapers with qualitative and quantitative method.This research finds the source of People's Daily is simple which is written by journalists.However,the source of New York Times is multiple.The coverage is specific and detailed which is written by professional journalists.For knowing the public recognition of diabetes coverage,the author made a questionnaire,including audience cognition of healthy coverage and self-cognition,cognizing knowledge of diabetes,reading the information of diabetes and the information of audience.The questionnaire shows that audience pay more attention to diabetes;43.91% of audience choose newspapers to obtain information and also read People's Daily or New York Times;some audiences know more basic healthy information than diabetes patients who are younger and have better education.Basing on these questions,the author puts forward some suggestions to solve these problems: Newspapers should know the demand of public and enhance a number of diabetes coverage;More professional journalists should be trained;Newspapers should change the strategies of communication and enhance specific behavior to change unhealthy lifestyle.
