Study On The Rhetorical Strategies Of Disaster News Discourse In People's Daily

The current society has gradually entered the "risk society",and the disaster occurs frequently regardless of the will of people.The occurrence of Wenchuan earthquake,Yongwen motor vehicle accident and Tianjin Binhai New Area explosion caused a great threat to public security because of its strong unpredictability and destruction.In the process of discourse construction of disaster news,the rhetorical strategies are universally used.The proper use of rhetoric devices in news discourse can better explain and analyze news events.How does the People's Daily use rhetoric in the three stories of the above-mentioned catastrophe? What are the diachronic characteristics of rhetorical strategies which were used in the construction of catastrophe in the last decade? This is the main question of this study that waits to be proposed and answered.On the basis of summarizing the existing research results,this paper adopts the research methods of content analysis and text analysis to analyze 221 pieces related reports of People's Daily.The study found: First of all,in the above-mentioned three disaster reporting discourse,the proportion of rhetoric in the newspaper increased year by year,while negative rhetoric still occupied a large proportion;secondly,the use of meaning-changed figure of speech is proportionally increased in its disaster reports;finally,in the report genre of People's Daily,the use of rhetoric strategies in the critical text is proportionally high.In general,the application of rhetorical strategies in the discourse of the People's Daily News is constantly moving towards enrichment and integration,but the negative rhetoric is still the mainstream of rhetorical strategies.This study reveals the necessity and significance of rhetorical strategies in disaster news from the effect of news discourse.This paper examines the effect of rhetorical strategies with dialectical and critical perspectives,and puts forward corresponding suggestions to further improve the discourse operation of disaster news from the perspective of rhetoric to produce better social effect.
