In recent years,Metamaterials have been widely favored in the fields of electromagnetics,solid state physics and materials science because of its unique electromagnetic properties,which is one of the leading topics in the current international electromagnetism research.Compared with ordinary media,Metamaterials has a series of completely opposite electromagnetic properties,such as double negative characteristics,left hand characteristics,backward wave characteristics,negative refraction characteristics,the emergence of Metamaterials has opened up a new development direction for electromagnetic theory.Waveguide is one of the most widely used in the field of microwave,which occupies a pivotal position in the military,civil and other high-power situation.However,waveguide's study faced a lot of difficulties,for instance,the low frequency in the microwave,waveguide's conductor loss is small and easy to make but not practical;in high frequency,the power capacity is high,but the size is too small to process.Metamaterials loaded waveguide will help to deal with the difficulties faced by waveguides.In view of this,the transmission characteristic about Metamaterials loaded waveguide is deeply researched in this article.First of all,this paper mainly introduces the research background and significance of Metamaterials,Secondly,the singular electromagnetic properties of Metamaterials are studied from the basic concept of Metamaterials.At the same time,we study the realization method of the Metamaterials,including resonant structure and Composite Right/Left Handed(CRLH)transmission line structure.Then,we established and solved the wave equation and the field equation of the rectangular waveguide from the Maxwell equations and deeply discussed the transmission characteristics of the electromagnetic wave.In addition,the split ring resonators(SRRs)array is designed to be loaded into the waveguide.And we utilize Matlab to acquire the different transmission characteristics in the waveguide by combining the equivalent permeability model-Drude model and the wave equation.At the last,the S-band and W-band Metamaterials are proposed,and the expected results are obtained by HFSS simulation.Which verified the theoretical results is correct.Finally,the transmission characteristics experiments of S-band Metamaterials-loaded waveguides are designed,Which proved that the transmission characteristics of the waveguide are changed due to Metamaterials.On the one hand,the cut off frequency of the waveguide is reduced,and the left passband appeared below the cut off frequency.On the other hand,the stopband yielded in the waveguide mode,and the test is consistent with the simulation results.
