Research On The Mobile Reading Service In University Libraries Based On Students' Needs

The rapid development of mobile Internet technology has enormously push forward the popularization and application of the intelligent mobile terminal.Equipped with constantly improved and updated functions such as larger screen,expanded storage space and leveraged processing capability in its application,more and more young people are accustomed to using and gradually rely on intelligent mobile terminal to read.The new type of reading not only expands users' reading experience in terms of mobility,convenience and personalization,but also subtly changes their reading requirements.Instant reading,fragment reading,shallow reading,light reading,personalization,exchange and interaction have become characteristics of users' reading requirements,and these changes pose great challenges to university library,whose function is to provide information service for education and research.It has become an issue of common concern for Library and information Science colleagues to wield new technology and methods to integrate library resources with mobile terminal so as to break through the limitations of traditional reading and to provide students and teachers with new type mobile reading service.In order to resolve the problem,Library and information Science researchers and colleagues have done extensive studies and explorations in both theories and practices,and some information technology companies have also joined in the technological research and service popularization,which have attained a lot of theoretical results and practical experience.Actually,these theories and practices are,to some extent,lack of extensive studies on readers' requirements.Readers' requirements is the foundation of library service,so university library should provide mobile reading service on the basis of a thorough research on readers' requirements.Based on this,the paper is going to master theories and practices by literature investigation;try to establish theory model about mobile reading requirements,based on which to conduct case study research on mobile reading requirements of university students;Through analysis on the above-mentioned research results,the disadvantages of mobile reading service in university library can be concluded and suggestions are made to give reference to mobile reading service and practices.Based on the consideration,the paper can be divided intofour parts as follows 1.Literary review on mobile reading service.Through literary review,the advantages for university library to conduct mobile reading,as well as service type,service function,contents and readers' requirements of mobile reading can be perceived.2.Design of theory model about mobile reading requirementsThrough the comprehensive utilization theories in the information behavior and information requirements,as well as reading requirements and reading behaviors,theory model about mobile reading service requirements of university library can be designed.3.Case study and analysis on mobile reading requirementsThrough the analysis of case study on motive,contents,forms,methods and service technology of reader's requirements,this part discusses the characteristics of mobile reading requirements of university students and take a cross analysis of different types of readers.4.Solutions for the improvement of mobile reading serviceThe paper proposes to strengthen the reading content resources,provides many kinds of resources for readers' retrieval and utilization of library bibliographic retrieval and the conventional database retrieval with certain proportion,pay attention to the characteristics of mobile digital resources utilization;secondly,with the development of the Web2.0 concept,the library needs to achieve strong interaction through numerous mobile service social networking tools;third,to strengthen the study of user needs and behavior of mobile reading;fourth,to strengthen publicity for the new service,allowing users to fully understand the function and operation of the new service.
