Virtual campus is an attractive combination of virtual reality,computer network,information system,graphics and image as well as computer multimedia techniques.By fusing components of each building and their properties,these high technologies provide distant users with powerful and real campus scenes which simulate visual and auditory sensation stimulus,thereby offering a platform for intuitively and comprehensively understanding the basic situation of the campus.A virtual campus roaming system is proposed in this paper using VRML.This paper studies various problems that may occur during the development of the virtual campus,and proposes a roaming system that enables human-machine interaction by combining VRML with 3DS MAX in the computer environment.The design process and structure of the Bohai University campus roaming system is briefly discussed.Analysis is performed of the technological procedures for achieving interaction between the loading&displaying module and the colors at the surface.Interaction regarding geometrical transformation of virtual entities is also analyzed,including translation,zooming,and rotation of virtual entities,as well as collision detection.These interactions are controlled via mouse and keyboard operations.Finally,the automatic roaming function of the campus virtual reality interaction system for Bohai University is observed overall.The proposed system is intuitive,interactive,easy and real-time,being capable of providing intuitive perceptions and impressive visual effects.With the proposed system,users can view the buildings and landscapes in the school from different viewpoints,and interact easily with the specified landscapes during the viewing process.
