Wireless sensor network is a self-organization system with the combination of system on chip, micro-electro-mechanical network, embedded technology and wireless communication technology for monitoring the area of data collection and transmission. It consists of a large number of sensor nodes which have the capability of data collection, data transmission, data processing and integration in the the monitoring area. Because each node in the network has limited energy, and the information monitoring and transmission tasks consume a huge energy,so it require a reasonable routing protocol. The primary objective of the design is how to reduce and balance the energy consumption of each node, and extend the life of the system.Minimum hop routing protocol belongs plane routing protocol, and compared with hierarchical routing protocol, it is easier to implement and can be used in the underground strip environment, this is a direction that worthy of further study in coal production areas. For the special underground strip environment, not all of the wireless sensor network routing protocols can be well applied to the mine pressure monitoring system. In the longitudinal direction, there are less nodes at the same gradient, but they bear a lot of data packet and control packet transmission tasks. This requires the routing protocol must meet the use of data integration, low power consumption and balancing energy consumption. Consider these characteristics, the minimal hop routing protocol which can be applied in the underground strip environment has been optimized and improved in this paper. On the one hand, in the condition of ensuring the transmission path has the minimal hop and lowest energy consumption, the data transfer phase of the protocol using energy node grade processing mechanism, and improve out an algorithm named Minimum Hop Count based on the Node Energy Classification: In the process of data transmission, child node does not need to traverse the parent node set to find the largest remaining energy one, only have to change the next hop node when the next father node's energy level changes, thereby reducing the overall number of network control packets. On the other hand, in the route maintenance phase introduct active handshake mechanism, and improve out an algorithm named Minimum Hop Count based on Active Handshake: For mobile node adding and new node joining, this algorithm can update the routing information in time, and reducing energy consumption and end to end delay of data transmission, finally extending the life of network. The simulation results show that: Compared with the traditional minimum hop routing protocol, improved protocol in the field of network lifetime, average energy consumption and end to end delay of data transmission, percentage control packet have shown some advantages.
