Heat dissipation is an important issue in the development of electronic components. There is more than a half electronic components damaged because of high temperature. Natural convection is a very reliable technology to dissipate heat with a simple structure, low energy consumption and a reliable. Natural convection is a very important heat dissipation method when the power is low. With the change of used condition, there are more and more electronic devices are installed on the limited space. The heat dissipation performance of electronic devices is seriously affected in a limited space. The research about the heat dissipation on the condition of constrained space is rare. Based on the above conditions, this paper focus on the research about the heat dissipation in a confined space.The first, this paper do the research about the heat transfer of single base plate when the plate is placed in the confined space. The law of heat dissipation when the height of constrained space is changed. The law is got when the plate is placed on level. When the plate is placed vertically. The law of heat dissipation when the width of constrained is changed is also got. Scope of the constrained space influence when the plate is placed level or vertically is estimated basing on the research before. The influence of constrained space is not significant when the plate is vertical, and this is the major conclusion of the research on single plate.The heat transfer should be enhanced when the law of single plate heat dissipation is got. The way to enhance the heat transfer of based plate is to increase the heat dissipation area. Two forms of extra area is used which are straight rib and pin fin. The influence of power is studied when the heat radiator with the form of straight rib and pin fin. When the height of limited space is changed, the low of heat dissipation is also figured out. The performance of pin fin is better than straight fin.The relationship between the extra area and the constrained space is figured out. The next need to do is to optimize the straight rib and pin fin to get better performance. The paper get the best fin-pitch on the condition of constrained space when the height of fin is fixed. When the height is the same, the best width of the slit is also got. Combined the calculation results before, the best structure size of fin is presented out. The experimental correlation of large space natural convection has been discovered, and the heat dissipating capacity can be calculated probably. Then the experimental correlation of large space natural convection and the law of natural convection in confined space are combined to figure out the new equation to calculate the heat dissipation in confined space. At the last of the paper, the limit value of radiator with a certain volume is discussed by comparing the air flow in constrained space with common enhanced heat dissipation method.
