CMMB( short for China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) has currently been available such as CCTV- news, CCTV-1, CCTV-5, “colorful eyesight film”; “colorful world” etc. 5 set of national programs and 2 sets of local program. With the number of CMMB users increasing year by year, new requirements and demands has been aroused in the quality and quantity of the program. The numbers of the original programs have been unable to meet the needs of users. In order to solve this problem, it needs to increase several sets of programs based on the existing program before. According to the current use of bandwidth resources, it is hardly able to add more new programs, thus result in seriously restriction of the rapid development of CMMB industry. So video compression comes up and handles this issue. It occupies less bandwidth resources; meanwhile add more video programs with maintaining the high quality video presentation. It therefore caters to the needs of new market and also enhances attraction of the mobile phone television business. This article analyzed by video compression coding theory, focusing on the H.264/AVC coding process, puts forward a fast intra prediction algorithm. By way of histogram, the intra prediction mode from 592 down to 132, greatly reducing the types required for intra prediction. This algorithm in almost without lowering the peak signal-to-noise ratio, greatly reduces the coding complexity. At the same time, the use of adaptive mean to make the appropriate adjustments to the dead-zone, improve the SNR gain. Application of the proposed algorithm was tested at the encoder, proved to improve the video coding quality has positive effects. So as to optimize the channel transmission CMMB system provides an effective approach.
