The basic theory research of Library and Information Science is an important part of the development of Library and Information Science. India, as one of Asian countries which the Library and Information Science, has developed earlier and made some achievements on the basic theory research. China and India share the history, culture and other aspects. Moreover, they also have communication, exchanges and cooperation in the development and construction of the Library and Information Science.In the development of the basic theory of Library and Information Science, China and India have their own characteristics and similarities. Such as in the history, the basic theory in the development of the two countries have started at the beginning of 1900 s, and were influenced by western thoughts. In the content, the scholars of India are relatively concentrated on one kind of theory. On the other way, Chinese scholars are always studying all kinds of miscellaneous theories, and covering a wide range but not deep enough. In the methods, both countries scholars have focused on the application of scientific method in theory research. In the schools, Indian LIS schools of theory is deeply influenced by Ranganathan's, while in our country is showing a picture of the contention of a hundred schools of thought. Through the study on the comparative analysis of the theoretical basis on Indian and Chinese LIS, this paper summarizes the experience and lessons from two countries, and points out the further development to serve the basic theory of LIS in our country. At the same time, the domestic scholars in theory research should pay attention to strengthen the comunication, to ensure the quality, and to make innovations in the inheritance.This paper consists of seven chapters. The first chapter introduces the purpose and the meaning of choosing this topic, and the present situation of the research. The second chapter determines the comparative subjects and domain of this thesis. From the third chapter to the sixth chapter the author conducts comparative studies on the development stage, main research contents, the research methods, and theoretical schools, the four dimensions respectively, to study the development of basic theory of Library and Information Science of Chinese and Indian. The seventh chapter which is based on the summary and conclusion of the proposed theory, makes an enlightment as well as the future direction for the research of Library and Information Science in our country.
