The Ultra-Wideband(UWB) antenna plays an important role in UWB system. As a crucial component of the UWB system, the UWB antenna affects performance of the system significantly. UWB antennas have the advantages of low profile, low power consumption and integration easily, so it is widely used in communication systems. The Federal Communication Commission(FCC) authorized the unlicensed use of the UWB(3.1GHz~10.6 GHz) in February 2002. In this paper, based on the antenna theory, the concept of ultra wideband antenna is analyzed, and the influence of different structures on the radiation characteristics are explored and analyzed. The specific work done in this paper is as follows:(1) The development of ultra-wideband system at home and abroad is reviewed, and the research background and the actual situation of the planar antenna are also presented. The basic structure of the planar antenna is introduced, and its working principle is explained in detail.(2) This paper describes the basic concept of UWB antenna, analyzes several performance parameters, and makes a comprehensive analysis on the important performance of the antenna. Then the operation principle and the feeding mode of the UWB antenna are introduced in detail. In this paper, the notch characteristic of ultra wideband antenna can be changed because of the change of structure parameters.(3) A planar sector stepped planar antenna is designed, and the model and performance simulation are carried out by CST software. Then, several main performances of the antenna are analyzed comprehensively, such as return loss, radiation characteristic, gain characteristic, etc. The important performance of the curve diagram is obtained by simulation, and the curve in the graph is analyzed and explained.(4) Further in the antenna embedding double slot. Through software simulation, optimization of data so that the antenna in Wi MAX and WLAN two important working band produce a notch, also avoid adverse effects on the other properties. This plane sector stepped planar antenna has good performance in many aspects, and generated a notch in two special operating frequency bands.
