In this paper, the research background of ultra-wideband antenna, the characteristics , status , and trends of ultra-wideband antenna are introduced . Some typical structures of ultra-wideband antenna, and several common parameters such as , impedance bandwidth, radiation properties, polarization and the group delay and others in the design of ultra-wideband antenna are shown here . Based on whether the ground plane and the radiation patch on the same plane or not , recent development of the UWB antenna is presented in detail according to the type of patch . The technology of the miniaturization, bandwidth expansion, and band-notch technology are summarized.The planar UWB antennas are simulated and analyzed, and the main improvements are as follows:1,The symmetric fork structure is used based on the Pentagon patch, semi-circular gap is adopted on the ground plane to improve the omni-direction. Good omni-direction is achieved in the 3.5-8GHz band.2,A multi-step structure of ultra-wideband antenna is optimized , the FCC suggested bandwidth of 3.1-10.6GHz is satisfied, and the antenna is also miniaturized. By opening a circular slot on the radiation patch, omni-direction of the antenna is improved.3,The design of wide-slot antenna and microstrip antenna are combined, for the wide-slot antenna, by adjusting the ground plane adjacent to the radiation patch, the lower limit of frequency is improved. For the circular patch ultra-wideband antenna, the dual-arm symmetric structure introduced at the both ends of the ground is adopted, by changing the arm width and length ,the band range can be adjusted, and the high-frequency ultra-wideband antenna is designed.
