With the development of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV), UAV's applications gradually broaden from military defense to civilian areas and consumer fields. Especially in the past two years, since the popular of consumer UAV's aerial shoot, making the UAV has become a hotspot research. The use of UAV can help people do a lot of different types of tasks, while significantly improving efficiency. Due to the rapid development of image technology, the UAV's aerial shoot image resolution requirements are also increasing. The application of ultra-high-definition image must be the future development trend of UAV. But for the remote transmission of the image data, the direct transmission of the original image data requires high bandwidth. The image compression operation must be carried out before the transmission.The main function of this system needs to be done is to complete 4K ultra-high-definition image compression shot by UAV. Compression quality requires subjective effects, while the compression ratio is adjustable. Depending on the demand of the system, the system design adopts an ADV212 chip based on JPEG2000 algorithm as an image compression module. The image pre-processing module completes the component extraction of the image data in 4:2:2 YCbCr format, and the extracted single component data is stored in an external large capacity SDRAM memory. The image data output module merges the compressed single component data in accordance with the JPEG2000 standard and then outputs. System configuration module completes the initial configuration of the ADV212 configuration. The power management module converts the external supply voltage to the required voltage for each module of the system.After the completion of each function module of the system circuit schematic design, the principle of signal integrity of high speed signal in the system is summarized. At the same time, the common reflection and crosstalk in signal integrity design are simulated. Finally complete the hardware PCB design and the system software function module design.According to the design of the system scheme, we have developed a long time stable operation of the UAV ultra-high-definition image compression system based on ADV212. The system can successfully achieve the ultra-high-definition image compression. Test results also show that the definition of ultra-high-definition image do not reduce too much when the image compressed 10 times, and the naked eye is difficult to distinguish the difference, while reducing the bandwidth required for remote transmission of image data. In addition, the image compression ratio can be software adjusted according to different application requirements. We have successfully completed the functional requirements of the project.
